Cheektowaga Plans Total $3.5 Million By MARIANN CAPRINO News Cheektowaga Bureau Cheektowaga officials met Friday to discuss several bond issues representing "an accumulation of demands and requests" and totaling about $3.5 million for the coming year, according to Supervisor Kenneth. J. Meyers. The major projects for which bonds will be issued include the purchase of equipment for the Highway and Sanitation departments, together totaling about $1 million. Widening the approaches of the Rossler Street bridge and renovations in the police, and- court building also will be funded.
Town parks will receive a facelift eventually, and $1.5 million was the ballpark figure mentioned for parks development. In addition, land acquisition estimated at $327,000 will be considered. "We're taking advantage of aid that's available to help set things Mr. Meyers said. "We're not going to get 100 percent funding on the parks, he said, but nearly $1 million has been applied for in grants for park rehabilitation.
No estimates were discussed for the proposed senior citizens center, which also will be bonded when a site is and building plans are completed. All the bond issues will appear at various times for approval by the board as resolutions. Members of the Finance and Parks and Recreation committees were present at Friday's meeting to get an idea on the total cost of the bond issues. The town accountant will determine the effect a $3.5 million bond issue will have on the tax rate and report back to the board. "The bonds all have different longevities and will come out of different budgets, and all the action won't happen at the same time," Mr.
Meyers said. Additional improvements will begin in the town as the result of about $1,220,000 funding through the federal community development block grant program. The town will hold its last public hearing on the 1981- 82 proposal at 6 p.m. Monday.
