eGPU hardware

wikingoo egpu + Gainward RTX 3060 Ti Ghost OC + 400w sfx power supply + 1m TB3 cable

Windows Installation steps

Install Windows 10 1903 Via Bootcamp
Install Apple Updates, including amd drivers
Restart the system. eGPU attached on left tab tb3
Install latest nvidia drivers
Reboot...you're done.

Using internal display

I was using the enclosure with the Jumper set to "N" (supposedly works best for nvidia) had to change back to the "A" jumper in order for the error 12 to stop
Tried yesterday to make it work on latest win 10 build, but didn't work, had to do a clean install of 1903

Did you run any benchmarks? I'm really curious, I have the same MacBook and I'm trying to decide if it is worth getting a 3060, or just get a cheaper one like 1660 super. The reasoning is that the 3060 wouldn't be used to its full potential due to limitations on the TB3 bus in this machine, so it would be a waste of money, perhaps?

I’ve played a little bit tarkov and pubg, the performance is a lot better, specially since the cpu has more watts available while the 5300m is mostly idling

if you’re going to purchase, I would go with something cheaper first, I’m using this gpu since it’s the one I have on my desktop and this is just a temporary solution when I’m away from home.

Updating, I’ve changed the graphics card for a 2060 dedicated to the egpu, since the 3060 I use on my desktop

connection is much better with the 2060 and can hotplug and I’m running the latest version of win 10 without any issues

dont know why the 30 series have more issues

@panzamk, I have the same models. currently running the 3060, but I'm waiting for a used 2060 super to be delivered. I only tested the 3060 for now and noticed in Bootcamp that detecting the eGPU is kind of a hit-and-miss. The thing that works best most of the time is plugging the egpu with the Mac turned off, then powering up the Mac. Also, it only works on the front, left side TB. In other TB ports, it is detected but appears with an exclamation mark on the devices manager.

Hello!

I know it's very late to respond to this.

I have a Wikingoo eGPU with a 500 W ATX PSU, and an Asus GTX 1080 GPU (30 cm length in total).

Looking for a case for this, or some hints for single parts that I could assemble.

Thanks for pointing me into the right direction. I appreciate your help!

@panzamk, hi i am exactly using same hardware, mbp 2019 16" with ASUS nvidia 3060 ti and wikingoo egpu dock

tho i am so confused that many articles mentioned the error 12 issue, need to use a customized efi loader to fix

did you do any other step to make it work? ex: the efi thing, or do you need to disable AMD 5500M from device manager?

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

.
